Tashlich: Tashlich meaning “to cast” is a service usually done during the afternoon of the first day of Rosh Hashanah, but it can be done any day from the first day of Rosh Hashanah until the last day of Sukkot. The purpose of this ceremony is to recognize what is written regarding our sins in Micah 7:18-20, “Who is a God like You pardoning iniquity, overlooking transgression, for the remnant of His heritage? He will not retain His anger forever, because He delights in mercy. He will again have compassion on us. He will subdue our iniquities, and You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.You will extend truth to Jacob, mercy to Abraham, that You swore to our ancestors from the days of old.”
During Tashlich, stone or bread is taken to a body of water with fish/life, scripture is read, a moment of reflection is take to recognize the act of G-d in our lives through Messiah knowing that our transgressions have been placed upon Him (our rock, bread of life) who has taken our sin upon Himself; a stone and/or bread is thrown into the water and enters to the depths of the deep/belly of the fish. His forgiveness results in our continued life of freedom, love and hope, whereas sin remains with/in the deep.
