Maariv (from/bringing the evening) was chosen as it was said that Jacob happened upon a “certain place” after fleeing from his home in the evening. This “happening upon a certain place” is recognized a time of prayer/thanksgiving. As Jacob entered into God’s dwelling place (Beth-El), he would lay his head on the rock and receive the dream we know as “Jacob’s Ladder”. Even in the night, we give thanks to HaShem, because with Him we have everything we need in Messiah Yeshua. Today we can say with confidence that God is with us, watching over us, will bring us back, and will not forsake His Word until it is fulfilled. This is why it is important to “bring on the evening” with prayer and thanksgiving!
